Control Methods

Hayden Environmental Services provide control methods for invasive weeds other than Japanese knotweed such as Giant Hogweed and Ragwort.

Giant Hogweed

Giant Hogweed is a phototoxic plant introducted into the UK during the 19th century for ornamental gardens. Sap from the weed can cause skin inflammations and burns when the skin covered in sap is exposed to sunlight or to UV-rays. Initially the skin colours red, then blisters form as in burns within 48 hours. Like Japanese knotweed, the planting or spreading of Giant Hogweed in the wild is an offence covered by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Ragwort

Ragwort is native to the UK and is a aggressive invasive weed. Ragwort is a toxic plant that if ingested by people and livestock can lead to liver damage. The Weed Act of 1959. covers Ragwort, land occupiers have a duty of care to take action to prevent the spread of Ragwort and other injurious weeds.
